The Epiphone Les Paul Custom Prophecy was launched at the 2008 Winter NAMM in Anaheim, and has since taken the guitar world by storm! As the baby brother company of Gibson, Epiphone are the only guitar manufacturers licensed to build Les Paul's with the authentic shape and specifications, and this guitar is no different. The Epiphone LP Custom EX is based on the same iconic cutaway mahogany body that has been made famous by players such as Slash, Jimmy Page and Zakk Wylde. It features a highly figured quilted maple top, a classy Midnight Ebony finish, eye-catching pearl control knobs and unique ‘blade’ fret inlays which run along the length of a beautiful ebony fingerboard.
The big difference between this Les Paul Custom and the standard models that Epiphone make is the way it feels and sounds. The Les Paul EX Prophecy features a 24 fret speed-taper mahogany neck, with a feel more akin to an a shredders guitar such as a ESP or an Ibanez. Huge, high gain tones come courtesy of a pair of humbuckers...but these are no ordinary pickups, they're a pair of active EMG's, generally considered to be the holy grail of heavy pickups. An EMG 85 sits at the neck and an EMG 81 at the bridge, powered by a 9v battery in back plate.
